Guide for Employees
This information is intended to assist
employees (and where applicable, sub-contractors) in attaining
high standards of health, safety and welfare on worksites. These
rules and conditions are in addition to any statutory duties
imposed by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 or any other
applicable statutory regulations.
Entry onto Sites
On initial arrival onto site, employees
must report to the person indicated as the site contact on the
work construction. Vehicles must be parked only in designated
areas or as agreed by the site contact. Site speed limits and
traffic controls are to be observed at all times.
Site Safety Rules
The site contact should inform employees of
any particular site safety rules and make available any
necessary safety information. Should a query arise as a result
of this information then employees are to immediately contact
the work supervisor.
Accidents
Employees should make themselves aware of
contact numbers and any site procedures. Obtain details of any
site First Aid Stations that may be available. Incidents should
be reported to the site contact and the work supervisor.
Personal Protective Equipment
Employees must at all time wear appropriate
and suitable P.P.E. Any protective equipment should be properly
maintained and conform to British Standards. If in doubt then
contact the work supervisor.
Housekeeping
Work is to be carried out in a clean and
orderly manner at all times. Due consideration should be given
to material and plant storage areas with regard to other
parties. All waste materials should be removed frome site unless
otherwise agreed with the site contact.
Lifting operations
Before any lifting operations are carried
out by the use of mobile plant the driver must produce a current
test certificate for the plant along with any other
certificates.
Work Instructions / Risk Assessments
Employees must ensure they understand any
work instruction issued to them and take particular note to risk
assessments. If they are unclear about any aspect of the
information supplied they are to contact the work supervisor.
Fire
Employees should make themselves aware of
site fire procedures for evacuation of buildings and sites, also
noting fire reporting procedures and contact numbers.
Welfare
Confirm with the site if site welfare
facilities are available and if so, can they be used.
Portable Tools
Portable electric tools should be 12V and
should be inspected prior to use to ensure so far as
practicable, suitability for use.
Excavations
Before any excavations are carried out on
site the site contact is to provide any available information
with regard to underground services or buried obstructions.
Employees are to use suitable equipment to locate underground
services.
Employees
must ensure at all times that they fully understand the tasks
that are to be carried out and the implications of their
actions, not only with regard to personal safety but to others
as well. Health & Safety is primarily a personal responsibility
and it is only by being constantly vigilant that hazards can be
identified and accidents avoided |
